A WALL OF MISUNDERSTANDING OPENS DOOR TO INSIGHT MURAL, ASSEN, NETHERLANDS
In 2023, a remarkable mural titled “Een muur van onbegrip opent deuren van inzicht” (A Wall of Misunderstanding Opens Doors to Insight) was created in Assen, the Netherlands. Moluccan artist Dominique Latoel painted the work on the side wall of a residential building in the Moluccan neighborhood of Assen. Drawing from his own Indigenous roots and inspired by the stories of local residents, Latoel created a powerful mural that bridges cultures and generations. For this meaningful project, KEIM Soldalan was used, an environmentally friendly and mineral-based paint known for its exceptional color brilliance and long-lasting durability. The mural combines contemporary storytelling with the enduring silicate painting tradition. It stands as a permanent reminder of connection and understanding in the community and a shining example of how KEIM materials can help art become part of the built environment, built to last for decades to come.
From Keim:
KEIM Soldalan was selected for this project due to its mineral-based formulation, exceptional durability, and proven ecological performance. For artist Dominique Latoel, whose Moluccan heritage is rooted in a deep, ancestral connection to nature, material choice is an extension of his artistic and cultural vision. The silicate technology behind KEIM aligns seamlessly with his commitment to environmental responsibility and long-term value. Its natural composition, breathability, and UV-stable pigments ensure the mural not only integrates harmoniously into the built environment but also stands the test of time, both technically and conceptually. In this context, KEIM functions not just as a paint, but as a collaborator in a culturally grounded, sustainable public artwork.
