23XI AIRSPEED RACING FACILITY, HUNTERSVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA
The 23XI Racing facility, aptly named “Airspeed,” is a state-of-the-art 114,000-square-foot headquarters located in Huntersville, North Carolina. Co-owned by NBA legend Michael Jordan and NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin, Airspeed was designed to be more than just a traditional race shop, aiming for a “Google of race shops” feel with its modern amenities and collaborative environment. It features dedicated areas for viewing cars, live team work, victory hardware, and specialized rooms like the Toyota Engine Room and Mobil 1 Driveline Room. The facility also boasts a comprehensive fitness center with a recovery room and a well-appointed break area, all designed to foster a positive and efficient working environment for the team.
From Keim:
Keim was specified initially on this project by Merriman Schmidt Architects, as they were familiar with our products. When the design team for Michael Jordan’s 23XI Racing facility sought the “blackest black” with a color warranty, our product was uniquely positioned to meet their demands. We participated in a competitive mock-up alongside three other companies, applying our respective products to a tilt-up panel. The results were undeniable: our solution delivered a superior aesthetic, flawlessly covering the surface and ultimately securing the project.
