MINERAL WOOD SYSTEMS

INNOVATIVE,
NON-FILM FORMING,
BREATHABLE,
COLORS THAT WON’T FADE.
KEIM.

Breathable, non-film forming, matte flat decoration of wood facades.

Discover KEIM’s globally renowned technology for long-lasting, low- maintenance protection of masonry, concrete, and now dimensionally stable exterior wood facades. Our innovative penetrating mineral silicate formula provides breathable protection without forming a film, offering a unique mineral matte flat finish with natural pigments. This formula ensures a uniform “gray” appearance, allowing the wood to age naturally and uniformly. Like the mineral color? Simply renew it when needed, which could be 10 or 15 years from now!”

LIGNOSIL® VERANO GRAYING WOOD STAIN

Immediately simulates gray aged wood, then promotes uniform graying over time.

Traditional wood finishes typically use organic binders like acrylics, creating a plastic-like layer on the wood surface. However, these finishes are not UV-resistant, start degrading soon after application, and are not porous, leading to moisture issues and wood decay. Additionally, they tend to peel as wood expands and contracts, requiring frequent maintenance and refinishing.

Lignosil—Verano is a groundbreaking wood finish utilizing an inorganic binder that is entirely UV-resistant and mineral oxide pigments for color stability in any climate. This non-film-forming, highly vapor-permeable finish prevents peeling and allows moisture inside the wood to diffuse without causing damage. It also has a matte, non-glossy appearance that enhances the wood’s natural beauty with lightfast, natural-looking colors

COMMERCIAL

Natural wood cladding is rapidly gaining popularity due to its sustainable qualities and stunning visual appeal. The renewable nature of wood makes it an ideal choice for commercial design, and its versatility allows for a range of design possibilities. The contemporary trend of incorporating gray and black color tones into wood designs is beautifully enhanced by Keim Lignosil Verano, which offers natural graying effects that can elevate the aesthetic of any commercial project.

RESIDENTIAL

Sustainable home building leans heavily into wood cladding, both inside and outside, due to its renewable and low impact nature. The use of natural materials demands a natural finish and the no-sheen finish of Lignosil Verano is perfect to enhance the inherent beauty of natural wood. Homebuilders and homeowners are embracing wood like never before.

THE NATURAL COLOR EVOLUTION OF WOOD

The natural color of wood varies with each species, but the silver-gray color that develops over time in all wood is a result of exposure to the elements. This aging process is accelerated by UV light and rain, and the level of exposure determines how quickly the wood will change color. Direct exposure to sunlight can cause certain areas of the wood to turn silver in as little as 6 months.

Untreated wood may turn gray inconsistently as different areas receive varying levels of sun and rain exposure. This can create an unsightly appearance until the entire surface develops a silver-gray patina and is generally less than desirable. Now you can enhance new wood with a uniform gray appearance, that promotes the continued color change with time and weather.

It’s just a matter of time

2 YEARS

UNTREATED WOOD AGES INCONSISTENTLY

We’ve all seen wood like this. Over time, exposure to weather damages the wood’s natural beauty, and it turns unevenly gray. Traditional clear sealers can only partially protect the wood from turning gray as they poorly screen UV rays, which speeds up the wood’s color change. Note also how areas where water run-off is lower have less color change.

Don’t let your wood end up like this. In as little as two years, poorly protected wood can change color dramatically and unevenly. Lignosil Verano solves this problem by providing your wood with an attractive pre- grayed appearance that will remain consistent for many years. The light-fast mineral pigments screen UV so the underlying wood can age more gracefully and uniformly. And many of our clients like their mineral gray color so much, they refresh with additional stain after 5 or 10 years. You control the exact appearance of your wood—defying the weather!

NATURE INSPIRED AGED WOOD COLOR TONES

Lignosil-Verano uses only mineral oxide pigments from nature, which are completely U.V. stable and will not fade or change colors. The natural minerals are particularly well suited to the graying—process and never look artificial. Coupled with a mineral—matte flat finish, the look is always genuine and “natural”, it never looks like a synthetic layer.

Please note the impact of wood species and texture on color. Rough-sawn wood develops more color per coat due to the more porous nature of the wood surface. Spruce wood in the colors at the top is “yellower,” and cedar is a more neutral color here. Photo representation of colors is also limited and varies from monitor to monitor.
